Chris serves as the Senior Chief Engineer for UCSF Health Facilities, bringing 27 years of deep industry experience to one of the most complex healthcare infrastructures in the country. He oversees enterprise-wide regulatory and Joint Commission compliance programs, including Fire Life Safety systems, Emergency Power systems, and Medical Gas systems—ensuring operational integrity and patient safety across all UCSF Health sites. Nationally, he contributes to the advancement of safety standards as a member of two NFPA advisory committees, helping shape NFPA 72, NFPA 101, standards through field-informed guidance and regulatory interpretation.

Currently leading efforts on the construction of the new Helen Diller Hospital at UCSF’s Parnassus campus, with a focus on operational excellence and advancing healthcare infrastructure. Guided by UCSF Health’s True North Pyramid and PRIDE Values, Steven Chiang is committed to fostering safety, quality, and service while upholding professionalism, respect, integrity, diversity, and excellence in every aspect of his work.

With a strong background in technical systems and construction coordination, Lazare offers more than seven years of diverse professional experience. His career began with hands-on fire alarm work, expanded through his role as a Journeyman Engineer, and grew further in Construction Coordination—developing a well-rounded MEP expertise for hospital systems and operations.
Currently, Lazare serves as one of two lead Facilities supports for the new Helen Diller Hospital construction project at UCSF Parnassus Heights, where he leads coordination efforts to align design, infrastructure, and operational requirements for this transformative initiative.
